Hello Doug,

Happy New Year! I hope this first month is going well for you. This has been an up and down month for me and my family. On the down side, my father-in-law passed on January 14th, after battling an illness for the last 4 months. He lived a good life and really put a lot of his focus on his family. All of the five children and some of the grand chilidren were there at his bedside when he passed. He will be missed, however we know that he is in a better place and will be looking down on us for years to come.

On the up side, my son who is a US Marine is expected to come home from Afghanistan in the next week or so. He has been there since June defending the freedoms for our country. I am so proud of him and appreciate those of you who have kept him in your prayers these past 7 months. It will be great to have him home.

I hope you enjoy today's article on the Unique Practices of Success. As an added bonus, I have given you a link to a podcast of this article if you prefer to listen to it. The podcast is only 8 minutes long and contains some good information as you continue on your journey for success. NOTE: You can only access this podcast through your computer. It will not play over a mobile phone or iPad.

The “Unique Practices” of Success

Have you ever wondered why some people are able to go from one successful venture to the next and keep getting wealthier and happier? On the surface, it seems so easy for them…they seem to have all the “luck”, all the “breaks” and appear to turn everything they touch into gold. In reality, 99% of all the truly successful people have no more inborn ability or intelligence than you and I do! So what is it that separates the successful from the average person? What do the successful have that the average person does not? There are seven “unique practices” which all successful people seem to have. And it is logical to assume that if we develop these seven traits and incorporate them into our life, we to can be successful and have the life of our desire. Let’s look at the seven unique practices:

  1. Have specific goals in writing, and view them everyday first thing in the morning.  By writing down your specific goals, you are putting yourself in the top 5% of the people in the business world! Think about that last sentence. By practicing this step on a daily basis you will be ahead of 95% of those who do not do this! WOW!
  2. Work on improving yourself each and every day. I saw a great quote that said, “The problem with life is it is DAILY!” Each day passes quickly and rests on the pile of other days that you have already consumed. If you are not careful, you will go through your lifetime without taking the time needed to improve yourself and your overall position in life. Spending thirty minutes a day, five days a week, adds up to 130 hours a year of concentrated study and self -improvement! I hope that you would agree that spending 30 minutes a day investing in YOU is a win-win proposition! You should schedule time for this each and every day, preferably at the same time each day. Many of my clients find the first hour of the morning a good time, and even get up an hour earlier to work in a quiet environment. Start doing this and watch your income sore!
  3. Develop a positive attitude for success. It has been proven over and over that the person with a positive attitude will be more successful than someone with a poor one. So how do we keep a positive attitude each day? One of the best ways is to listen to motivational cd’s or podcasts while driving in your car. Hearing a positive message is much more beneficial to you then listening to the news and “talk” radio. By regularly practicing this “success habit”, you are maintaining a good attitude in your daily life. Another great way to keep a positive attitude is to read…everyday. Read motivational books that offer positive suggestions and solutions to problems you have. Read biographies of people who you admire as well as books on your topics of interest. By doing this you are actually feeding your mind with positive, helpful ideas that will help springboard you in your life and business journey.
  4. Have a “sense of urgency” over everything you do. Action is what drives change! Action is what moves mountains. The truly successful people are driven by deadlines and being active. They always have a sense of urgency in everything they do. Developing this practice will go a long way in increasing your confidence and overall bottom line!
  5. Be conscious of the value of your time! Time is something that you can never get back and is needed if you want to accomplish things. The most powerful time-management tool is the daily “TO DO” list. Everyday, write down what I call your six BIG ROCKS that you want to accomplish. Then number them in the order of importance, and begin with number one.  Give everything you have to the completion of number one, and once you have completed it, start on number two. Do this each and every day, and watch your productivity skyrocket! The reason this works so well is you have given thought to your goals and objectives; prioritized the most important things you must do; and accomplished them in the order of their importance! More importantly, this practice puts you in control of your life!
  6. Every successful person feels they are truly “living their purpose”. This purpose assures them that they know where they want to go, and that if they keep at it, they will get there. Those with a “purpose” always seem to know where they are headed. As a result, over a lifetime, they accomplish much more than our “average” person.
  7. Follow a regular physical fitness program for yourself. In order to pursue this journey called “life”, you have to have plenty of energy and stamina. You have to take time out of your day to spend on reinvigorating yourself through diet and exercise. Is it easy… no. But like any investment, doing exercise regularly will keep you strong and energized for the long haul. Stay in top condition…it is never too late to begin.

Look at these practices. Which ones are you doing regularly? How might you improve on any one of them? How would your life be different knowing that you were doing these each and every day? The reason that these are “unique” practices isn’t because they are, it’s because most people are not doing them – hence they go through life without ever really maximizing their potential. Your road to success depends on these seven practices. Begin today and let me know about the changes that come into your life!

I hope you have a great and productive day! As always, I welcome your feedback. Please email me at dougmattice@o2ecoaching.com
